Pirelli’s New C6 Tyre: The Ultimate Challenge at Imola

Pirelli introduced the new C6 soft-compound tyre at the Formula 1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with concerns raised by Williams boss James Vowles regarding its performance on the challenging Imola circuit. During practice sessions, drivers noted strong initial grip levels but were cautioned about the need to manage the new rubber carefully to maximize its potential. Vowles highlighted the difficulty of extracting optimum performance from the soft tyre, citing challenges faced by teams in getting a clean lap on it. Managing tyre temperatures and enthusiasm was emphasized as crucial to making the soft compound last over the demanding 4.9km track at Imola. Given the short lifespan of the C6 tyre, qualifying performance becomes crucial for securing a favorable grid position, with one-stop strategies expected to dominate the race due to the long pitlane and time lost in pit stops. Despite the conventional approach, Vowles left room for strategic variations, hinting at a potential mix of one-stop and two-stop strategies among teams at the Imola Grand Prix.
